Whats it About?
The Giving Tree is all about this boy who visits this willow tree everyday, and throughout his life the tree gives him something. The tree always has something to give the boy, not only does she give him material things like apples she also gives him the greatest gift of all; love. As the boy gets older he asks and needs more from the tree, at one point he even uses her branches to build a boat to sail away in and then the tree is sad because he has left her, but the boy returns to the tree. When the boy falls in love with a young women he carves their names into the tree, he uses the trees trunk to make a house to start a family in, and so all that is left is a stump. But even after the boys' children grow and move out and his wife has passed the tree is still there and comforts him by being a place to rest. This book is sweet as can be and is an odd version of a typical love story. But it shows an example to what true love is all about and how to give to selfish people who just keep on taking. There are many differnt life lessons you can learn from this book, as a child and as an adult.
